Renowned gospel musician King James Phiri has been sued for allegedly pocketing money for a show he did not perform.
According to Ntcheu magistrate court civil case number 248 of 2015, an upcoming musician Odala Zamapemba has sued King James Phiri for damages incurred due to the failure of the show, which amounts to K113, 900 including court fee.
The court documents indicate Phiri pocketed about 28 thousand kwacha upfront, out of the total agreed 35 thousand kwacha for him to perform at Zambezi evangelical church on 28 June, 2015.
The plaintiff also an upcoming gospel artist Odala Zamapemba, claims the show failed to take place because the main supporting artist did not show up, and allegedly did not give an excuse.
Zamapemba says in the lawsuit that he want Phiri to pay him damages amounting to 99 thousand 500 kwacha.
This plus the court fee, King James Phiri is expected to pay a total of 113 thousand, 900 kwacha.
The gospel artist confirmed of the lawsuit in an interview with this blogger, saying he will settle the issue on Tuesday July 7th, 2015.
Phiri however said:-“I will negotiate to pay the amount I received, because it was not my show and I see no reason it failed to take place.”
Ntcheu magistrate court has set aside July 16, 2015 as the deadline for which King James Phiri should respond whether he defends himself or pay the damages.
