Balaka district health office has commended Comfort community hospital an arm of Andiamo youth cooperative trust (AYCT), for offering free health services to under 15 children on top of free maternity services.

Bertha chikuse Balaka district health officer said the initiative has assisted to ease congestion hence Balaka district hospital has a small children’s ward.

Chikuse commended the initiative saying it is bailing out the resource constrained district hospital.

“The service level agreement between Comfort community hospital under Andiamo youth cooperative trust and Balaka district health office is that the facility will be providing free maternity services, but they have also incorporated children under the age of 15.
“This is a welcome development and is complementing government efforts of improving health service delivery,” said Chikuse.

One of the directors for Andiamo youth cooperative trust Patrick Bwanali said to date, over 50 thousand children under the age of 15 have received free treatment at the facility since January 2014.

Bwanali said over thirty five thousand children benefited last year alone, while the first quarter for this year has seen over thirteen thousand children accessing free services. This excludes those reached through outreach clinics.

6,715 pregnant women received free maternity services from January 2014 to March 2015 at Comfort community hospital.

According to bwanali:- “This translates that the facility might this year offer free health services to over a hundred thousand people under 15years, maternity and through outreach clinics.

While calling for other well-wishers worldwide to support this initiative, these free services have been possible with support from well-wishers of Andiamo and 26 percent support from Christian health association of Malawi- CHAM.

All the services plus administration costs are valued at about 120 million Malawi Kwacha incurred between January 2014 and March 2015.|+265 999 14 8304| +265 884 03 0389
