Police in Malawi’s Ntcheu district have arrested seven men for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl on different occasions.

Ntcheu police publicist sub inspector Gift Matewere said the six men are within the age range of 24 and 60.

Sub inspector Gift Matewere says the seven are Julio Richard 52, Silino Matiki 52, Weston James 50, Finias Malemia 60, Aggrey Ngoloweka 37, James Billion 35 and Fia Gunde 24.

According to Matewere, the victim’s grandmother noticed that the granddaughter had difficulties to walk.

Sub inspector Matewere said:- “The girl revealed that the men have been defiling her and giving her money since last year.”

The matter was reported to police who instituted investigations leading to the arrest of the suspects.

Medical report obtained at Katsekera Health Centre in the district confirmed the girl was defiled several times.

“The seven have been charged with defilement of a girl under sixteen years of age contrary to section 138 of the penal code,” added Matewere.

This took place in Dixon Village, Traditional Authority Mpando in Ntcheu district.

The number is likely to increase as some suspects are reportedly on the run.

Defilement cases continue being on the increase in Ntcheu, after recording over 30 percent increase of such cases in 2014.|+265 999 14 8304| +265 884 03 0389
