Mobile markets and excessive beer drinking are said to be some of the leading causes for highest HIV prevalence rate for Ntcheu than any other district in central region.

Ntcheu district aids coordinator Robert Kanyesi says the two are exposing people in the district to contract HIV with the prevalence rate currently at 12.5 percent.

Hundreds of people observed a minute of silence in memory of those people who died of Aids in Ntcheu during a candlelight memorial ceremony held at Gomeza primary school.

People were shocked when Ntcheu district aids coordinator Robert Kanyesi disclosed the fact that Ntcheu is having many people contracting HIV than any other district in the central region.

Kanyesi however said Ntcheu district council is not idle on the matter, but rather seeing to it that the prevalence rate is reduced.

He called upon all stakeholders in the district to join hands to achieve the reduction if HIV prevalence rate.

The national HIV prevalence rate is currently at about 10 percent.
