36 year old Tabiya Zingwa of Kasale village T/A Kwataine in Malawi’s Ntcheu district was arrested for allegedly selling her 15 year old daughter to settle 300 thousand Malawi Kwacha debt.
Ntcheu police deputy police publicist hastings Chigaru confirmed that Zingwa was arrested as she approached one of Ntcheu’s business tycoons.
Chigaru said the business person called the police who later arrested the mother.
She is expected to answer a charge of Pledging to offer a child as surety, contrary to section 82 (a) of Child Care Protection and Justice Act.
The married woman reportedly did not notify her husband of the plan to sell the daughter currently in form two.
